Hugs from Aly

I now have a growing collection of photos with my little bunny hugging me.
a
a
I love it when my daughter hugs me. She's just super lambing. This morning, while getting ready for school, she told me that she wants to hug me all the time. I live for moments like that. I'm one lucky mom :)

Anniversary

Richard and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary last week!
a
a
a
a
I'm very thankful that we are now in a very good place.  Richard and I are more like partners than just being husband and wife.  We are also more inlove with each other.  Ok, enough with the cheese.  Heehee!
a
a
Thank you, Lord for leading us to each other.  Please continue to bless our marriage and may we have many more happy years together.

Family Day

Last Sunday's family day was extra special because we were able spend it with my side of the family and with my inlaws.  It just can't get any better than that.
a
a
Thank you, Lord for family get-togethers and for giving us enough blessings so we can go home to be with the people we love.

Accomplishment

I went to the gym four times this week, spending somewhere between 30-60 minutes on each visit.  You know me, I don't really do this so it's quite an accomplishment.  Thank you, Lord for giving me the will power.  Next week ulit :)

Daily Inspiration

Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.
So, love the people who treat you right
and forget about the ones who don't.
a
And believe that everything happens for a reason...
if you get the chance - take it;
if it changes your life - let it.
a
Nobody said it would be easy...
They just promised it would be worth it.

Friends

This week has been great in the friendship department.  So many good news and the good vibes just keep pouring in.
a
a
The other day, I received a message from a friend telling me that she's expecting.  I was really touched and honored that she shared the good news with me.  When friends share news of their blessings with me, it makes me feel I'm next.  Heehee!
a
a
Yesterday, I was chatting with Aly's BFF's mom and she invited me to lunch as a way of thanking me for a small favor.  That "small favor" was actually nothing because all I did was send her the link to the Church's website.  She was asking me for directions, which I cannot explain verbally, so I just promised to send her the map via email.  All I did was cut and paste, and now she wants to take me out for a Korean lunch, which is actually great because I've been wanting to learn how to eat Korean and what better way to learn than from a Korean, right?  I'm so excited!!
a
a
Tonight, my own BFF's will be arriving and this is going to be a great weekend!
a
a
I must be doing something right in my life to have great friends.  Thank you Lord for these wonderful and beautiful people in my life.
a
a
We need friends for many reasons,
all throughout the four seasons.
a
We need friends to comfort us when we are sad,
and to have fun with us when we are glad.
a
We need friends to give us good advice
We need someone we can count on to treat us nice.
a
We need friends because we are social in nature
and having friends makes us feel secure.
a
We need friends to remember us once we have passed
sharing memories that will always last.
a
That's why I need YOU!

It's Payback Time

My three-year old workout shoes that look almost as good as new because well, I don't really need to wear them that often -- ok, ok, because I don't really workout at all!
a
a
But today, I was able to haul my huge behind to the gym for 60 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill.  Woohoo!  That's a new record for me -- not just going to the gym itself (last time I set foot there was last year?), but actually staying on the treadmill for more than 30 minutes.  Heehee!
a
a
It's a whole new world for me, this exercise thing.  But I have to lose the pounds that I've slowly been gaining back in the past couple of months.  Yeah, I've been bad and now I have to pay for it -- jeans are getting tighter!  Tsk...tsk...
a
a
Thank you, Lord for giving me enough will power to go to the gym today.  Sana magtuloy-tuloy na.  Please help me keep it up :)
a
a
Just because something is difficult,
doesn't mean we should not try.
a
But it only means that -- we should try harder.
a
a
a
Happy Monday!

Daily Inspiration

A friend from Bangkok sends me these gospel reflection emails on a daily basis and I saved the ones worth sharing with friends and family.  But I've never been able to figure out how I'm going to share them -- what title, how often, etc. so the archive folder just keeps growing and growing.  I decided to just keep it simple: straight to the point and no frou-frous.  Let the quote speak for itself.  And no, I'm not going to get all preachy on you.  I'm just here to provide inspiration.  It's up to you how you will digest it, but I really hope that it will help you in some way.  So here's the first one.

The best is yet to come.

My Birthday and Our Holiday

So I turned 33 yesterday and it was a great birthday!  I have no issues about revealing my age because I look and think young (naks!).  Anyhoo, big thanks to the hubby and my little bunny for making my day extra special.  Someone told me yesterday that Richard and Aly are lucky to have me, but I said it's also the other way around.  Richard and Aly are two of my greatest blessings and I am very lucky to be loved by them.

a
a
I'm still basking in all that birthday love.  Thank you to all my friends who greeted me on Facebook.  It really feels great to be loved :)
a
a
Speaking of love, I am also thankful for all the wonderful memories that Aly and I made during our holiday.
a

a
a
Thank you, Lord for another year -- for my wonderful family, my friends and everything else that you have blessed me with.  I pray that you will continue to bless us so that we will have more to share with our loved ones.

Our Nightly Ritual

...for the time being.  While Aly and I are on holiday.
a
a
Skype-ing with my sweetie: our new night-time ritual.
a
a
Texting during daytime has been kept at a minimum because we're avoiding enormous phone bills.  So a typical day for us now is: work for Richard; playdate or malling for Aly and me during the day, then Skype before bedtime.  It's a great time for us to make kwento about our day -- Aly and I show Richard the stuff that we bought (I don't keep my purchases from him even if I know that he doesn't always agree.  Heehee!)
a
a
Thank goodness talaga for Skype!  It's the best thing ever!

Adventures with Aly

Goofing around in her playhouse.  Sweetie, wish you were here!  We miss you!
a
a
Spending a lot of time with my big girl baby and loving every minute of it!   We went to the supermarket together and I took her with me to lunch with my best friend Pat today.  Even just being in the car together, me driving and Aly safely buckled up in the passenger seat, excites us.  It's like we're going on a new adventure even if our destination is like ten minutes away.  Heehee!
a
a
Time well spent with my daughter and seeing how happy she is makes everything worth it.  We miss Richard, though.  Can't wait for him to join us here.
a
a
Thank you, Lord for the opportunity to be with family and friends.  Thank you, too for the adventures no matter how small they may seem.

The Best Birthday Gift

Today is Richard's birthday but last night, he received the best gift ever.
a
a
The prettiest girl with fever that I've ever seen :)
a
a
His princess has been nursing a high fever since Saturday night.  Yesterday morning, we brought her to a pediatrician for check up.  Turns out she has tonsilitis, so she was prescribed with antibiotics and paracetamol then sent home.  But, in spite of the meds and sponge baths, Aly's temperature was a constant 39 degrees throughout the day.  Richard and I were very worried but my sister assured us that this was all part of tonsilitis.  She also pointed out that Aly's going to be ok since she hasn't lost her appetite and she was still able to do normal activities (she watched Extreme Makeover all day).  But still, as parents, you can't help but worry.  Father's day and birthday plans had to be pushed aside because all we wanted was for Aly to get better.
a
a
Richard waited until 12 midnight so he can give Aly another dose of Calpol but when we took her temp, the fever was gone!  37 degrees.  Like nothing happened.  Alleluia!!  Aly's shirt was wet with sweat so we had to change it but we couldn't be any happier because that was a clear indication that the fever was gone.
a
a
Thank you, Lord for making Aly better.  Sana magtuloy-tuloy na.  She's really looking forward to spending her summer break in the Philippines.  Plus, it's really the best gift that Richard can ever have on his birthday.  When we found out that her fever was gone, it was a huge relief for both of us.  I think he was able to sleep well last night.  We can't ask for anything more.

Father's Day

Happy father's day to the two most important men in my life:
a
a
My dad.
a
a
And my sweetie :)
a
a
I can't imagine how my life would be without you two and for that, I am beyond grateful.
a
a
Happy father's day too to all the daddies out there!

Daddykins

Celebrating dad's birthday here in Bangkok back in 2009.
a
a
Today is dad's birthday!  So I'm dedicating this post to my first love, my daddykins.  Here are some things you didn't know (or may not know) about my dad:
a
a
#1 Nothing makes dad happier than being with his children + grandchild.  One of our favorite memories as a family was when we traveled to Hongkong and Macau back in 2009.
a
a
a
Macau
a
a
Hongkong
a
a
But the trips need not be abroad.  Even a simple trip to the mall or supermarket creates happy memories.  Sometimes we don't even need to leave the house.
a
a
Our annual new year's eve party in Tagaytay is always super fun!

a
a
#2 Even if he's surrounded by many women...
a
a
Dad in Las Vegas.
a
a
...he has eyes only for mom, the "Aple of his eyes".  Heehee!
a
a
#3 Dad is great already as a father -- there is nothing more that my siblings and I could ask for.  You can just imagine how he is as a grandfather.  Aly adores her lolo Bernie like anything!  Whenever Aly would come home, lolo Bernie makes sure that they have enough of his one and only grand daughter's favorite food at home: cheese, hotdog, Chuckie, Yakult...if Aly says she wants Jollibee, dad would drop whatever he's doing and drive his grand daughter to the nearest Jollibee.  He is just awesome!

Sports-themed Christmas party.  He bought Aly a different colored headband because she didn't like gray -- even if the entire family was wearing gray.

a
a
The things that he'd do to make his unica apo laugh (not too successful here!).
a
a

a
a
#4 Dad has fierce haggling skills! But believe it or not, he wins the haggling war most of the time.  That's something that I really want to learn from dad :)
a
a
#5 Dad is not just the perfect father, he is the perfect husband as well.  Just look at how he spoils mom.
a
a
With designer bags:

a

a
a

a

a
a

a
a
And that's the way to treat a wife!  (Note to self: make sure the hubby reads this post.  Haha!)
a
a
#6 Dad always keeps a bag of his favorite chips at home.
a
a
It has to be cheddar and sour cream.  Hindi nya pinapansin yung iba.
a
a
#7 Dad is a fashionista.  He's a bit of a bagets dresser too.  Heehee!
a
a
Rockin the statement tee in an apple orchard somewhere in New Jersey.
a
a
In a Calvin Klein jacket on the streets of NYC.
a
a
In another Calvin Klein jacket and a Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Brooklyn bag in Niagara Falls.
a
a
#8 He has a huge collection of Lacoste shirts.  I don't know exactly how many, but I know that can wear one everyday for two months without repeating.
a
a
A fraction of his collection.
a
a
My favorite: his limited edition Campanas x Lacoste.
a
a
#9 Daddy has a smile that can light up the entire room.  Whenever he cracks a joke, my sister Angel and I laugh the loudest.  We're his biggest fans!
a
a
Happy daddy and his great, big smile!
a
a
#10 My dad is super tipid and super maingat with his things.  Like his phone can be 2-3 years old and not have a single scratch on it.  And if he thinks that a certain item is still usable, he will not throw it away even if it's really old.  I remember one time I was de-cluttering the house and I found this plastic container that wasn't being used anymore so I threw it away.  Later that afternoon, the container found its way back into the house again.  Apparently, dad found it in the trash and brought it back inside kasi daw pwede pa naman gamitin.  Classic daddy!  But I guess that kind of attitude is what led him to where he is now.
a
a
#11 Dad jogs every morning.  He's a bit of a fitness buff (hindi ko na naman namana ito).  Even if he's on a holiday, he doesn't skip his morning exercise.  When he's here in Bangkok, he'd wake up at 5:30am and go around the block.  His commitment is admirable.  I think that's his secret for looking and feeling young!
a
a
#12 Another one of dad's morning rituals: magwalis ng bahay.  Even if he has a helper at home, sya pa din ang nagwawalis.  He also has these special tweezers that he uses to pick up the smallest bits of dirt on the floor -- like a strand of hair or a tiny, tiny piece of paper so small that other people won't normally see.  He's OC like that -- eto, namana ko na talaga to sa kanya.  Haha!
a
a
To dad, happy birthday again!  I hope, no, I know you will have a great one.  I feel bad that we're not there to celebrate with you but you'll be here in a few weeks so we'll celebrate again.  I pray that the Lord will bless you with good health, more blessings to share with others and many more years to come so we can make more memories together.  Thanks for being a great dad to us and lolo to Aly.
a
a
With dad on my wedding day.  When this photo was taken, the room suddenly fell silent.  Tears were starting to well up in my eyes.  It was my moment with dad.
a
a
We love you, dad!

Family Time

Richard and Aly just had a long weekend -- Monday and Tuesday were public holidays here in Bangkok.  We didn't go anywhere; we just stayed at home and did family stuff like watching movies, tv series...both of them also pitched in with the household chores which I really loved.  Heehee!
a
a
I love those days when we can just chillax at home -- I have no complaints about being stuck at home because the heat outside is too unbearable.  We don't like to leave the comfort of our air-conditioned home.  But don't worry about our carbon footprint, we only turn it on when we really have to like, for a couple of hours in the afternoon when the heat is at its peak.
a
a
Thank goodness for long weekends!  I have my husband and daughter all to myself, all day, everyday :)

Encouragement

Today while waiting at my doctor's office, he approached me, gave me a gentle pat on the back and said, "Please don't stop losing weight.  Keep up the good work.  Stay away from carbs, rice, bread...eat more salad."
a
a
You can just imagine kung gano kalaki ngiti ko.  Haha!  It totally made my day!  :)  But I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that I don't gain it all back.  Haha!

Update on My Lenten Sacrifice

Sometime last March, I told you about my Lenten sacrifice: no make-up shopping and no chocolates for six weeks.  I'm proud to say that I made it!  Ok, I'm going to be honest because I had a slice or two of Aly's birthday cake which was chocolate -- not good quality chocolate cake though ala Polly's so I won't really consider it (ok, excuses).  I also figured it's better to eat some than throw food away right?  That would be a bigger sin.  Anyhoo, other than that, I stayed away from chocolates. As in zero.  Even if I had to buy several packs of Toblerone for pasalubong when we went to Manila for Holy Week.  Even when I was tempted to buy the Hershey's chocolate ice cream in the supermarket during our last day because they don't have it here in BKK and it was my last chance to have it.  Yeah, I pretty much had to have nerves of steel but I'm really proud that I made it through.  So, on Easter Sunday morning, I got this for myself at the airport.
a
a
A box of Droste chocolates.  Yum!
a
a
I think I went a bit overboard because as soon as we arrived at Suvarnabhumi, I bought another pack of chocolates -- Maltesers naman.  Heehee!  Bumabawi...
a
a
As for make-up, it took me another week to buy again and this is what I got:
a
a
Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry.  The SA tried this on me when I had my free facial and I liked it.
a
a
And now for the best part.  Making that sacrifice not only made me lose a little weight (from not eating chocolates), but it also lessened my cravings.  I only eat chocolates like every weekend now.  To think it's so easy to buy since I pass by 7-11 everyday on my way to Aly's school.  Plus, chocolate bars here are cheap, like Thb30 (Php42) is enough to get you a chocolate fix.  But no, I think after six weeks without chocolate, my body was able to trick itself into thinking that I don't need to have it all the time.  I won't say that I will eliminate chocolates completely because that won't be me.  Heehee!
a
a
As for make-up, I now have better control.  No more gigil, no more wanting to buy this -- no more shopping even!!  After the Chubby Stick, I haven't bought anything yet.  Even after making a promise to myself that come Easter Sunday, I will go back to my suking NYX cosmetics seller on eBay to buy more stuff.  I checked her site twice, but I never got around to buying anything.  So yay!!!
a
a
I think I did a great job for a first-timer.  Thank you, Lord for seeing me through and thank you for "healing" me from my product addiction.

The Life I Always Wanted

Thank you, Lord for giving me a wonderful husband who is crazy about me (I'm equally just as crazy and madly in love with him too!).
a
a
And for a beautiful daughter who brings me so much happiness.
a
a
a
It's the kind of life I always wanted.
a
a
And I'm inspired to be an even better wife and mom to these two.  Thank you, Lord for all the blessings :)
